(letter - report for organizer)
First let me send you our best regards and our admiration on the project you started quite a few years ago. The whole team in Mariborska knjižnica is very pleased, that we pulled the Night with Andersen through in our library.
The reason I am writing to you is, that we would like to give you a short briefing about the things that we were doing that night. It was a long night and a lot of things happened. So I will try to give you a detailed report but not too long.
There were 18 children, aged between 13 and 15 and 10 librarians. The whole thing started at 19.00 and ended around 9.00 in the morning. So what were we doing the whole night? Definitely not sleeping. First we played a game so that everybody did get to know everybody. After that we were making a mask of Andersen with help from Mojca Sekulič Fo (a well known Slovenian illustrator). When the masks were done, we went downstairs to hear a travel lecture about Denmark since it is the birthplace of H.C. Andersen. The lecturers brought with them a traditional Danish cake. And so it was time for dinner. When the dinner was over we learned almost everything there is about H.C. Andersen. A small exhibition about Andersen was put on with all the details from his life. Where he was, what he liked and all sorts of things. Everything was followed by a storytelling hour. The stories that were told were: The shirt - collar and and Jack the Dullard. The second story was then used to make a play out of it. Children made their own costumes and learned the lines. The performance they made was absolutely astonishing. In the early morning the children were doing some creative writing and later on we took a stroll through the city center. After that we had breakfast and we prepared everything for the morning presentation which was made for the parents and the media representatives.
All in all it was a wonderful experience.
With best regards,
Robert Kereži, Igor Černe and the whole team from Maribor public library
